Aimee Abu-Shamsieh, MD, is board certified in pediatrics.
She is a graduate of University of California, Los Angeles where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Near Eastern Studies as well as a Master of Public Health with a focus on maternal and child health in the Middle East.
Dr. Abu-Shamsieh received her medical degree from Wayne State University and then graduated from the UCSF Fresno Pediatric Residency Program. After spending some time in private practice, she returned to academic pediatrics.
Her interests include breastfeeding medicine, infant and young child nutrition, and care of the newborn, especially in populations medically, socially and economically at-risk. She is currently the local primary investigator of a multicenter NIH-funded study looking at the mechanics of infant feeding, and is developing an individualized breastfeeding curriculum.
She recently obtained a grant from the California Department of Public Health’s California Obesity Prevention Program for the Children’s Health Center (the resident pediatric clinic) to promote breastfeeding among underserved populations. Having lived, worked and studied in the Middle East, she also has a special interest in global health and promoting cultural competency.
