The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and UCSF Fresno seek a highly motivated Hematology/Oncology fellow with a keen interest in cellular therapy. This fellowship position is tailored to train a future Cellular Therapy Hematologist/Oncologist who will play a pivotal role in developing the Cellular Therapy Program in Fresno. Supported by a grant from the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), this fellowship offers comprehensive training in cellular therapies, encompassing patient evaluation, clinical trial enrollment, apheresis procedures, cytoreduction techniques, cell preservation, infusion protocols, and management of post-immunotherapy complications.
Our active clinical research program at UCSF Fresno has expanded since its inception at the Community Cancer Institute in 2018. We participate in both cooperative group and Industry-sponsored trials. We serve a diverse patient population with a large Central Valley catchment area extending from Tulare to Merced. We are a referral center for patients with acute leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, and aggressive lymphoma.
Duration: 12 months (Non-ACGME Fellowship) split between UCSF and Clovis sites. Academic Year: 2026-2027.

Responsibilities:
- Training and Education: Undergo 12 months of cellular therapy training split between the UCSF main campus in San Francisco and UCSF Fresno/Community Medical Centers in Clovis.

- Develop competencies in patient assessment and management of cellular and gene therapy for various disorders, including cancer.
- Gain hands-on experience enrolling patients in clinical trials and implementing cellular therapy protocols.
- Learn techniques for mononuclear cell collections via apheresis, cytoreduction procedures, cell preservation methods, and infusion protocols.
- Acquire skills in managing complications arising from immunotherapy interventions.
- Program Development:
- Collaborate with local leadership and UCSF leading campus faculty to contribute to the growth and enhancement of the Cellular Therapy Program in Fresno.
- Assist in developing program standards and quality improvement initiatives, working towards FACT accreditation.
- Engage in community outreach efforts to ensure equitable access to cellular and gene therapy services in the region.
- Clinical Research:
- Participate in the active clinical research program at UCSF Fresno, involving cooperative groups, industry-sponsored trials, and investigator-initiated studies.
- This will include training in study design, analysis, and implementation.
- Contribute to ongoing research initiatives to advance cellular and gene therapy and improve patient outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Board certification in Internal Medicine.
- Board certification or eligibility in Oncology and Hematology.
- A track record of productivity in cellular therapy is preferred but not required.
