The latest law on donations, the new charitable provisions, part of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (H.R. 4), went into effect on August 17, 2006. Things that you may want to consider from this new law are:
- If you have an IRA and are over age 70½: In 2006 and 2007, you can withdraw up to $100,000 from your IRA tax-free if you give the money directly to charity.
- If you itemize deductions: You must now have a bank record or written communication from a charity to support all monetary donations (cash, check or other monetary gift). We will send a receipt for any donation.
- You can donate household goods up to $500 without an appraisal
- If you are in Arizona we can help you get a dollar for dollar tax credit against your state taxes up to $400 for a couple.
